We ended up working until 8pm tonight so decided to be fat lazies and go out somewhere, somewhere new.
We have been talking about doing a major veggie burger survey. Let’s try all the veggie burgers in Atlanta. No better time to start a fun new segment about burgers than half-assedly after a too-long day at work. In the true half-ass fashion we chose the closest place, Grindhouse Killer Burgers, a chain that recently opened it’s newest location a mile away from us. Funnily, it is also across the street from our old high school which once upon a time would have been a horrible deterrent but now is just funny. It also has a roof and we have an uncanny attraction to places with roof access/views, automatic yes.
Their veggie burger option is a ‘vegan-friendly beans and quinoa’ burger. They have a large awesome beer menu and $5 wines which pleases me. Kelly got ‘the Euro’ variation which includes swiss and sauteed mushrooms. I got the classic; american cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles all the condiments. ‘Grindhouse sauce’ on the side (because you have to try the signature sauce), and a side of fries. The view was blocked with screen so no view this time. They were understaffed so it took a long time for the food to come – we were just happy not to be at work and felt bad for the two overworked servers running around tending to the whole busy upper level.
When our burgers arrived they looked quite classic and appetizing wrapped up in a paper container, cheese oozing out. Veggie burgers frequently fall into two deficiencies, under-seasoning and texture. Unfortunately this burger suffered in both of those with the mustard being the most flavourful thing and a generally mush texture. With the glutenous potato bun the whole thing stood together as one stodgy under-seasoned glob, I can’t imagine getting the ‘double’. The grindhouse sauce reminded me of white pepper gravy they pour over biscuits but mixed with something that made it an off-putting pink, brain color. The fries ironically had that seasoning on it that I haven’t tasted since eating the fries they served in high school. One thing I liked was the price, my burger was $5, however we were both unsatisfied. I don’t know how we are rating this things yet but I would say this would be a 4/10? Yea or nay, nay?
Ultimately I would suggest getting a beer, a side of fries or trying their ‘cheesy poofs’ (deep fried pimento cheese balls…great/gross?) and playing some corn-hole.
Surprisingly harsh review to premier veggie burger judgefest with, I promise we aren’t assholes, I think..
