Yes, these delicious babes are served right here in Atlanta – right off of North Druid Hills at this place you have probably heard of or been to many times before called Bagel Palace. Tucked down in the midst of their million item menu is the ‘Coney Island Knish (fried)’.
Bagel Palace was one of my favorite restaurants once upon a time and was my go-to birthday restaurant choice (I was always Bagel Palace in the BP vs Goldberg’s debate) – though Bagel Palace has gone down hill in the past few years with grainy cream cheese and more basic food + service disappointments (due to management changes I believe) their indulgent fried knishes are one of my favorite fatty weaknesses. Supposedly imported straight from a knish producing factory in Coney Island these $2.75 potato puffs are every ounce as good as they look – I highly recommend getting a side of spicy mustard and ketchup and goin to town!
Sidenote: It has been a long time since I have given Bagel Palace another chance( for something other than a knish or a bagel to-go ) since disappointing me on like three consecutive tries so it probably deserves another shot after the years. Looking over their menu again I see that there are some intriguing/perplexing menu items to try like their ‘taco salad made with vegetarian chili’, the challah french toast stuffed with a fruit cream cheese, a ‘sweet fruited noodle kugel’ and if I was a gross depraved meat eater ehem – meat eaters listen up – I would TOTALLY try their knish sandwich with corned beef. All of these sound like they have equal chance of being amazing/disgusting which is alluring to me – let me know if you go and try anything!
LOL Paul and I used to pass that place all the time and something about the sign always made me choose Goldberg’s instead. I have to try this!
I hate to break it to you BUT those knishes have dough that is too thick and too chewy but at least they’re fried which is good.
The baked knishes are no good either.
Shatzkins were the only good knishes back in the day
Shatzkins! What is that? Yes please!
