One day my stepdad came home with some fries we had to try. These were Nick’s “Greek Style Fries – Potato wedges fried and sprinkled with lemon juice, oregano and tzatziki sauce” . To me these aren’t really fries… they are really in a class of their own. The “Zeus Juice” (I don’t know if this name is something from Nick’s or us haha) aka the tzaziki sauce is perfection in conjunction with these potato wedges.
This first introduction to Nick’s Food To-Go sucked us in and now for years we have been faithfully returning. One thing I love about this place is that it’s the quintessential hole-in-the-wall with great food. You will notice when you go that it’s just a little ole brick building in Grant Park right next to Oakland Cemetery with a couple picnic benches outside and a tiny counter surrounded in pictures of Greece. Though Nick himself is retired, as a family run business you will often see his wife Helen cookin’ in the back or have his daughter take your order at window. Our usual is the Greek Fries, a Greek Salad and a Veggie Gyro and from those offerings it is hard to pick a favorite. Through the years it has been consistently delish and I highly recommend you go check it out if you haven’t already.
